This exists to record my thoughts on movies, and occasionally other stuff. Too often my thoughts on something go unthunk for a while and eventually forgotten. I figure if I invested time in something in the first place, it's worth a few more minutes to make sure I remember it.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

I liked this a lot.  You must suspend your disbelief a bit, or think of it as a big budget B-movie.  The CG was amazing, only a few times did I really think about the apes not being real.  It’s a shame the rest of the actors weren’t nearly as good as Andy Serkis and his digital apes.  Maybe Lithgow was, but everyone else sucked.

This was a little bit slow going in the beginning, but once Caesar started understanding the world around him things really picked up, until the pretty awesome bridge fight.  As soon as the movie ended though I thought, “well shit, that’s dumb, they got over the bridge, now what?  They’ll just be gunned down over there.”  But then the during-credits sequence explaining that the virus that kills humans but makes apes smarter (silly, yes, but whatever, it works for a movie like this) will quickly spread across the globe ties it all up pretty neatly.  There’s no need for a sequel, what will it be, Outbreak but with smart apes roaming around?
